Interventional Glaucoma Masterclass

The Fundingsland Group with its education partner, Moran Eye Center, is proud to launch a new 16-hour mentor based didactic and hands-on Masterclass in the emerging field of Interventional Glaucoma therapy.

There will be fifty student positions available with a chance to take part in the following exclusive activities:

  • Mentor-guided didactic workshops
  • Interactive live webinars to review the latest literature and answer all questions
  • In-person case review grand rounds at the Moran Eye Center in late September
  • In-person wet labs and workshops at the Moran Eye Center in late September

The goal of the Masterclass is to improve practice patterns and clinical outcomes and significantly grow the number of patients treated in each field.

Program Details

The Interventional Masterclass aims to offer comprehensive didactic and hands-on training to early career cataract surgeons and select glaucoma fellows in order to improve glaucoma care and reduce the disease’s burden in our communities.

This Masterclass program will include the following:

  • Each learner is assigned a mentor to support questions and advise throughout the program. Participants will be part of a small WhatsApp group with direct access to their personal mentor.
  • Each month, learners will participate in one of the following online modules. Each with approximately two hours of content from leading experts
    • Interventional glaucoma paradigm and SLT examples
    • Meds and sustained release
    • Angle surgery MIGS
    • Minimally invasive bleb surgery (MIBS)
  • Four interactive webinars after each online module, with all mentors and learners, to summarize each module, review relevant literature, and answer any questions
  • In-person half-day case review grand rounds in Salt Lake City on Sept 27th and 28th (attendance required)
  • In-person wet labs, dry labs, and workshops in Salt Lake City at Moran Eye on Sept 27th and 28th (required attendance)

Each participant who completes these components and passes the exam will obtain a certificate of completion signed by the program director and mentors. A special certificate of commendation will be given to the top 20% of exam scores.

 

Targeted Learner

This Masterclass is primarily targeted towards Cataract, Comprehensive and/or Glaucoma Surgeons who:

  • Are within the first 10 years of experience post-training
  • Conduct between 200-600 cataract surgeries per year + selected fellows and recent fellow graduates
  • Direct experience managing glaucoma patients
  • Have begun to implant MIGS and sustained release devices, or are intending to start immediately after this education program
  • Are based in a surgical facility where MIGS and sustained release devices are available

 

Learner Requirements

All Learners agree to complete all online course modules and attend the in-person case review, wet labs, workshops, and exam in Salt Lake City, Utah, on September 27th and 28th.

Program organizers will cover the cost of hotel accommodations on September 26th and 27th and all associated meals. All other travel costs will be the learner’s responsibility. The program cost to participate is $199, to be paid after the application is approved.

The fee will be waived for selected fellows and recent fellow graduates.

 

Selection of Participants

Applications are submitted through the Masterclass Application and should include a detailed CV.

Applications are reviewed by the Masterclass Mentors.

Priority will be given to surgeons who best fit the targeted learner criteria identified above.
