At the recent ESCRS Winter Meeting in Helsinki, The Fundingsland Group hosted an Independent Medical Education (IME) symposium titled “Achieving Optimal Visual Outcomes in Presbyopia Patients with Simultaneous Vision IOLs.” The forum explored the role of simultaneous vision intraocular lenses (IOLs) in modern presbyopia correction and brought together international experts to share clinical insights and practical perspectives.
The session attracted 178 live attendees, reflecting strong interest in emerging approaches to presbyopia correction and strategies for improving patient outcomes.
The program opened with Dr. Burkhard Dick, who welcomed participants, introduced IME initiatives, and ESCRS Education Forum resources, and presented key highlights from the ESCRS Clinical Trends survey, followed by the initial audience response polling.
Dr. Ruth Lapid-Gortzak presented key pearls for avoiding postoperative surprises, highlighting the importance of careful patient evaluation, expectation management, and surgical planning when working with presbyopia-correcting IOLs.
Dr. Joaquín Fernández followed with an update on the global consensus surrounding simultaneous vision IOLs, reviewing evolving clinical evidence and discussing how international perspectives are shaping best practices in presbyopia correction.
Building on these insights, Dr. Nic Reus discussed practical strategies for matching different simultaneous vision lens designs to individual patient needs. His presentation emphasized the importance of tailoring lens selection to lifestyle, visual demands, and ocular characteristics.
The programme concluded with Dr. Andrea Janekova, who addressed one of the most critical elements of successful presbyopia correction: patient communication. Her talk focused on effective ways to discuss benefits, limitations, and expectations with patients considering simultaneous vision IOLs.
Throughout the forum, brief Q&A discussions followed each presentation, allowing faculty and attendees to exchange perspectives and address practical questions related to clinical decision-making and patient management.

President’s Dinner
While in Helsinki, we also recorded an IME video interview on simultaneous vision IOLs featuring:
• Lena Beckers
• Thomas Kohnen

The conversation explores key clinical considerations and future directions for simultaneous vision IOL technologies. The interview will be released on the ESCRS Education Forum.
